Skoda recently removed auto-fold outside rearview mirrors from all the Kushaq variants. Many people were disappointed with this but Skoda had to do it because of the shortage of semiconductors that the world is facing. Now, Skoda is offering a cash discount of Rs. 15,000 to the customers who paid for the 2022 model of Kushaq.

The information was shared on Twitter by Zac Hollis and he also revealed that the dealerships would be able to retrofit the auto-fold function once the semiconductor issue is resolved. Having said that the customers would have to pay Rs. 15,000 to get the auto-fold function retrofitted to the Kushaq that is why the manufacturer is giving a discount of Rs. 15,000.

Skoda also updated the brochure for the Kushaq. Earlier, this variant was offered only on the higher-end variants. However, now it is not offered on any variant. We hope that the semiconductor issue is improved and Skoda is able to add the feature back.

Taigun’s auto-fold ORVMs also removed

Volkswagen also removed the auto-fold feature for ORVMs from the Taigun and updated the brochure. The reason behind doing this is the same as the Kushaq i.e. shortage of semiconductors. Having said that, Volkswagen has not yet announced if they will be offering any discount or the dealerships would be retrofitting this feature in the future. We would just have to wait for Volkswagen to officially announce any information.

The Kushaq and Taigun are based on the same MQB-A0-IN platform. This platform is a highly localized version of the MQB-A0 platform that Volkswagen and its subsidiaries use in the global market. The wheelbase of both the SUVs measures 2,651 mm. In fact, the upcoming Skoda Slavia and the Volkswagen Taigun.

The engine and gearbox that we get on both the SUVs are also the same. There are two turbocharged petrol engines on offer. There is a 1.0-litre TSI that produces 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque. Then there is the 1.5-litre TSI that produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 1.0 TSI also gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission whereas the 1.5 TSI also gets a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The Kushaq currently starts at Rs. 10.99 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 18.19 lakhs ex-showroom. Skoda offers the mid-size in three variants namely, Active, Ambition and Style.

Volkswagen has priced the Taigun between Rs. 10.99 lakhs ex-showroom and Rs. 17.99 lakhs ex-showroom. It is offered in two trims. There is Dynamic and GT. The Dynamic is further divided into Comfortline, Highline and Topline. The GT has two variants namely, GT and GT Plus.
