The 2023 Ford Maverick now receives the Tremor off-road package making it the fourth pickup in Ford's line-up after the Ranger, F-150, and Super Duty.

Ford's entry-level pickup, the Maverick, has just been introduced with the brand's Tremor off-road package. Adding several mechanical and visual updates, this upgrade will be available only on this vehicle's XLT and the Lariat trims. The 2023 Ford Maverick with the Tremor off-road package will go on sale starting September this year. It will have an MSRP of $2,995 over the base price of the chosen grade.

With the introduction of the Tremor package, the Maverick has now become the fourth pickup after the Ranger, F-150, and the Super Duty in Ford's line-up of vehicles available with this off-road capable upgrade.

Maverick Tremor's highlight is its unique all-wheel-drive system, which comes with a lockable rear differential. This system's twin-clutch rear drive unit can divert all the rear axle torque to the wheel with maximum traction. This feature makes this unibody pickup relatively more capable off-road than vehicles with traditional all-wheel drive systems that use brake vectoring.

Ford has also equipped this package with five selectable driving modes to assist this vehicle in sticky situations further and make it more comfortable driving on the road. For example, depending on the conditions, one can switch between Pavement, Mud, Sand or Snow, and Towing, altering the vehicle dynamics as required.

Furthermore, Ford's Trail Control system adds more off-road chops to the Maverick Tremor. Think of this as a cruise control system for off-road driving. One has to set the desired speed, and the system will manage the throttle and braking inputs. This allows the driver to focus their full attention on steering inputs with all the hard work handled by the system.

Opting for the Tremor package will upgrade your Maverick's front and rear suspension components. This will also increase the ground clearance by 1 inch, up to a respectable 9.4 inches. Furthermore, the approach (30.7), departure (22.2), and break-over (19.9) angles will also improve compared to the standard Maverick trims.

Only available on the XLT and Lariat trims of the Maverick, the Tremor off-road package is based on the non-hybrid drivetrain of this pickup which features the 2.0-liter I4 turbocharged EcoBoost engine. This unit can produce 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. It comes as standard with 8-speed automatic transmission. However, to improve its off-road efficiency and reliability, the Tremor package is strengthened with the help of a heavy-duty transmission cooler and upgraded half-shafts.

Having gained additional off-road capability, the Ford Maverick Tremor does not sacrifice its practicality aspect. Even with this package, this pickup will still be able to tow up to 2,000 lbs and have a maximum payload capacity of 1,200 lbs.

Though Ford hasn't revealed fuel-efficiency figures specific to the Maverick Tremor, with a minimal increase in the overall weight of the vehicle, in comparison to the standard trims, we expect the figures to remain almost identical. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with the AWD system is rated by EPA for 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway, with a combined figure of 25 MPG.

As we have seen on the Tremor versions of the Ranger, F-150, and Super Duty, the one on the Maverick also comes with various visual updates. This package includes a unique front grille, blacked-out Ford logos, headlights, and taillights. In addition to this, there are bespoke 17-inch aluminum wheels that feature the signature orange-colored Tremor highlight. These are wrapped in Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires as standard.

The lower part of the front bumper also features a revised look and houses exclusive orange-colored tow hooks for recovery. In addition, to protect vital driveline components, the Ford Maverick Tremor comes with steel skid plates.

If this is not enough, buyers can also opt for a Tremor appearance package. Available at an MSRP of $1,495, it adds a few other visual highlights, such as carbonized gray paint on the roof and mirror caps, along with Tremor-exclusive graphics for the hood and the lower body of the pickup.

The cabin of the 2023 Ford Maverick is quite unique in itself in the way that it has a very funky yet practical layout. In addition, the XLT and the Lariat grades come with distinctive color schemes and accents, making the interiors appear more bright and modern. The Tremor off-road package in the Maverick alters its cabin by adding accents that feature a darker theme.

This includes Black Onyx seats, which feature Tremor logos and the signature orange stitching. In addition, the light colors on the dashboard, center tunnel, and door pads are replaced by dark-colored ones. When it comes to onboard features, since the Tremor is essentially an add-on package, it does not add or delete any. Creature comforts in the Ford Maverick Tremor will depend upon which grade out of the XLT or Lariat a customer chooses.
