SPRING HILL – Tug McCleery has been splitting time on the football field and in the hospital recently.

There was something a bit special about preparing for the broadcast that night, 25 years ago. The brand-new high school in town, Centennial High, would face Williamson County’s emotional favorite, Franklin, for the first time in football.

Dear Nolensville Little League Community,

Parking in the city of Franklin’s two free downtown garages has gotten considerably easier with the installation of a new parking guidance system from InDect Performance Counts.

The days of having to guess whether a parking spot is truly available are over, according to a press release from the city.

The system is a single-space system utilizing ultrasonic mini sensors (UMS) with LED indicators. UMS is a ceiling-mounted ultrasonic sensor used for precise vehicle detection in indoor parking garages.

The system is installed over each individual space with an LED indicator that provides easy-to-see availability. The UMS is the most accurate technology in the parking industry utilizing ultrasonic waves to detect parking availability. The color of the sensors specifies the occupancy/availability of each individual parking space. Green – transient, Red – occupied, Blue – handicap.

The previous counter was developed in-house with video technology and was not reliable. The new InDect Performance Count system is more dependable and allows visitors coming to downtown to check available spots via a website prior to arriving downtown. The website is www.franklintn.gov/parkinggarage

The total project cost was $294,000 and was funded from a portion of the city’s allocation from the American Rescue Plan Act. One allowable use of ARPA funds is aiding the tourism and hospitality industry that was impacted by COVID-19.

“The parking counters in the two city-owned garages will improve the downtown Franklin experience of our tourists, guests, customers and employees,” a city spokesperson said in the release.
