Just a week after announcing pricing and full specs for the facelifted 2022 Mazda CX-5, the company has now announced updates for its flagship three-row SUV.

The main highlight of the upcoming model year’s upgrades is the addition of all-wheel drive (AWD) across the entire lineup. As a result, the Mazda CX-9 now starts from $34,160 to $35,280 for the Sport variant. While this represents a $1,120 increase, the previous Sport AWD had a starting price of $35,860, which means you actually save $580 when splurging for this trim.

The aforementioned Sport variant not only costs less in reality, but it also has more equipment, too. This variant now gets full LED exterior lighting, from the headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights. In addition, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, push-button start, cloth seats, eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, rearview camera, and rear privacy glass.

New for this year is a value-packed CX-9 Touring Plus variant, which is good for $41,660. This variant builds on the Touring Premium Package while adding ventilated front seats, two-person memory for the driver’s seat, black 20-inch alloy wheels, gloss black grille, aluminum roof rails, and a frameless rearview mirror.

The Signature variant continues to be this year’s flagship variant for the CX-9, and it’s the variant you want if you need heated second-row captain’s chairs with a fixed center console, Deep Chestnut or Parchment Nappa Leather upholstery with quilting and piping, Santos Rosewood interior trim, aluminum dash and door trims, silver 20-inch wheels, titanium gray grille with LED accent lights, among other luxury touches.

All 2022 Mazda CX-9 models are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque on 93 octane fuel, or 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque when using 87 octane fuel. This engine is also available on the CX-5 Turbo, CX-30 Turbo, Mazda 3 Turbo, and the Mazda 6 Turbo. A six-speed automatic comes standard, which as mentioned, drives all four wheels.

Do these upgrades make Mazda’s flagship SUV more appealing? If that’s a yes, then you’d be happy to know that the 2022 CX-9 will arrive in U.S. dealers this winter.
