The electrified pickup truck is joining law enforcement and with a 0-60 mph time of under 4 seconds will be ideal for catching the bad guys.

Ford hopes the next time you get pulled over, it will be with the help of its electrified pickup truck. The Blue Oval revealed the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro Special Service Vehicle (SSV) in full law enforcement regalia, along with a beefy front push bumper and roof-mounted LED strobe lights. Touting this EV's lower operating costs and reduced maintenance, the automaker believes this newest addition will make inroads among the 12,000 agencies that already use Ford police vehicles.

Ford is promising the law enforcement version of the F-150 Lightning can reach 60 mph from a standstill in under four seconds, making it ideal for catching up to most cars. This is possible with the extended-range battery version, which offers 580 horsepower, 775 lb-ft of torque, and a 10,000-lbs towing capacity.

In standard battery form, the truck gets 452 ponies, the same torque specs, and a 7,700-lbs tow rating. Ford is releasing range details for both versions later this summer.

Befitting a police vehicle, the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV comes with features that aren't available on consumer versions of the truck. The front seats have reduced bolsters to help holstered officers enter and exit more easily — built-in seat back steel intrusion plates get included, too. And, vinyl rear seats and vinyl flooring should make it easier to clean up after the bad guys.

Ford also calls attention to the truck's Mega Power Frunk for easy-access storage that's not available with a conventional police vehicle.
